How OSI Industries Differentiates Itself From Its Competitors

OSI Industries is one of the world’s biggest suppliers of processed food products. From 1909 to 1977 they were strictly a domestic company. It was after the arrival of their new owner and chief executive officer, Sheldon Lavin, that this company started its global expansion. As of 2018, they operate 65 food processing facilities which are located in various states in America, Europe, Australia, Canada, South Africa, South America, and Asian nations.

This company processes food that is served in restaurants. One of the things that make them different from other companies in their industry is that they don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every product they make can be customized to whatever the customers needs are whether that is weight, shape, flavor profile, or otherwise. Each of their processing facilities has a test kitchen where new recipes can be formulated. The restaurants they supply, for instance McDonald’s, offer very different things for sale based on where in the world the restaurant is. OSI Industries can accommodate this need and deliver great results.

Over the past 20 years processing poultry products has become an increasingly important part of what OSI Industries does. They can deliver raw chicken to their customers as well as breaded, battered, and formed into meatballs. They have been processing beef since 1909 and can deliver it as meatballs, meatloaf, burger patties, steaks, and Salisbury steak. They also process pork and can process it in many ways such as sausages, bacon strips, roasted, riblets, Genoa salami, hot dogs, and more.

OSI Industries started out in 1909 as Otto’s Meat Market on the streets of Chicago. In 1928 its name was changed to Otto & Sons when the founder’s sons came on board. It was in 1975 that it was named OSI Industries, LLC. One of their big contributions to the food industry over the years has been increasing food safety and establishing new production processes. They first started forming partnerships with restaurants in the 1950s when Ray Kroc of McDonald’s fame chose them to be his very first supplier of meat at his franchise locations.
